Ok, so this will be my first, and hopefully last, post to complain. I’m beyond cranky because I lost my thumb drive. Yes, it’s my own fault. I should have backed it up more often. I reminded myself to do it 3 times last week and never got to it. Now, it’s gone. That’ll learn me! The drive itself is not worth much, but the hours of writing that was saved on it was worth a lot. It was full of upcoming posts for my faithful readers. So, pardon me if there is a lull in the updates to this site. What’s more is that whoever took it from the machine I had been using knows very well that it’s mine. This is a small town and the thing was loaded with pictures that clearly identify its owner. Several of the posts, or notes for upcoming posts, mention people who live here as well. I’m pretty sure nothing too negative, but not good just the same. If a Tico finds it he might not like my note about boys wearing belly bags and if a Tica finds it she may not like my note about the mandatory mini jean skirt law here.
To add to my crank I woke up this morning to no water and frozen strawberries. The water shuts off about once a week on average. Joy. The bright side is that the new pipes seem to be holding up well.
I know, frozen strawberries don’t seem like a big deal, but when you finally find berries in this place they cost about 1 arm and 4 toes so when they go to shit in the fridge that freezes over about every 3 days it really sucks.
My panties are also twisted over my TV saga. Ask anyone, three tips for learning Spanish, 1) watch TV, 2) listen to music, 3) get a Tico boyfriend. Well, I’m avoiding number 3 like the plague and one of my earphones on my iPod broke, plain annoying, so I’m depending on TV. It hasn’t worked right since I arrived. Three of my 5 channels have so much audible fuzz that you can’t make out a word and the other two channels have so much snow that you can’t decipher the picture on the screen. “It’s getting fixed” is all I hear.
Because I‘m on a roll I’ll add a nugget about the lights…I’ve got 3 lights. Two in the house and one outside light. Two out of three aren’t working. So, not only did I nearly bite it on the steps in the dark the other night my landlord complained that I am using too many lights. “The electric bill is SO high”. Well, I need to friggin’ see.
I’m also wound a little tight right now cause my schedule is silly sporadic. I did come here to let go and be a little more fancy-free, but in typical Karen fashion I’ve over booked myself. Even without a job being overbooked can stress a person out. Between the Spanish classes, the English classes, the gym, some yoga and now work (yes, I found a lil’ gig), I can’t find enough time for me. I need more study time, writing time and I’d really like to get out and surf and do more hiking. This is a once in a lifetime chance to be free of corporate America. I want to be sure to make the most of it. Bah humbug.
Speaking of the surfing I want to do…one of my Spanish teachers just stopped by to tell me our 12:30 class needs to move to 2:30. Well, I’m giving an English lesson at 3:00. So, that’s means no Spanish till Wednesday and I could be at the beach getting my surf on right now!
Ok, that’s enuff for today. I’m allowing myself this one day to wear my CPs (cranky pants) then it’s over. Time to move on from the hard drive even. I’m ok with losing stuff, but it hurts to lose time. I learned the hard way, so vividly and with such a high price, that time does not come back to us. This is why I am changing my life to ensure that I make the most of my time. For me it is not well spent behind a desk or across a conference room table facing coworkers that only want to challenge you, make your day difficult and squash the smile you woke up with. It’s not worth dwelling over the words on paper that are gone. They’re in my head and heart somewhere. I just need to find time, see there’s that thing again, it’s so hard to come by, to get them out again.
Oh, last but not least, it’s that time…I’ve got PMS. Figured I’d leave you with one for the road. Hasta luego.
