Class is slow and tough for me, but I’m giving myself the week to settle in. I’m meeting up with my Tico friend Rigo tomorrow and some other senoritas and I plan to spend the weekend making some local friends to practice with. Patricia, mi amiga favorita, and I have made a promise to devote some dedicated time to our studies – on the beach tomorrow.
My landlord Juan Del Mar is so fabulous (except that he woke me up to chat today, ah yeah, at 5:30am). He said he’ll be “mi familia”. Amor.
Back to Patricia…my kindred spirit…how lucky I am to have met her at the start of this journey. I’m already sad to think she’s leaving in a couple of weeks. She’s like an Anie or a Paula – a traveling kismet! Whether just for this time or for a long time, I am happy to know her. Plus, we’ve got so much in common, she left her job of 8 years in corporate finance to see the world…FOR A YEAR!!! Girl power!
I finally met Nicole last night, an American living in Costa Rica for 9 months. I was connected to her via a mutual friend that I had met on my April trip, Christine. Who knew that she’d be my new yoga instructor? Not only did I land on her doorstep and she’s offered to help me along, but she gave me the best yoga practice ever! The cumbia charged me up and the yoga put me right back where I need to be right now. My back loosened, my chest opened and my mind didn’t think about work or snakes for a full 90 minutes.

Hola Mamasita! Glad to hear you're settling in and getting your bearings in your first week. Enjoy every moment of it. Studiar en la playa (that's my attempt at Spanish. I can also say "Donde es la pisina? You're impressed. I can tell.) sounds like a great activity! And I have no idea what Cumbia is, but I'm glad it's making you so happy! Cheers! --DaddyD
