Forgotten Surprises

My fabulous secretary and even more fabulous mother sent me a package recently. I waited anxiously for this box since it was to contain some much needed necessities (is that redundant?).

I went and checked for it twice in anticipation without luck. However, those trips to the PO Box weren’t wasted as I did receive some belated holiday wishes and cards. Still so fun to get good wishes, and pics of those growing kids, any time of year.

On the third trip it was there! I began to walk out of the post office, but had to turn around and open it right away. I mean, it was a box, so clearly there was more in there than the paperwork I was expecting. And I will admit I’ve done this with every box. The mail lady looks on and then I say “de mi mama” with a big smile.

Anyhow, I loved the goodies. Trailmix, big score! Toothaste always needed. Hershey Kisses, Love ‘em! A new book, finished it in two days. But, I had to get to work so I rummaged through and repacked it to grab the bus.

I opened it again at work so I could share my happiness and goodies with my coworker. He liked the kisses too. Although I could have played some more, even checking out the typed label that PG probably helped out with, I repacked it and put it away again. More fun later.

Well, later came and I put all my goodies out on display and munched on my new Wheat Thins. Then, there it was. I hadn’t noticed in the bottom of the box, tucked under a flap, a piece of white. Hm, what else did I need. I grabbed it like it was a Christmas Present an sure enough it looked like a Christmas card with my name handwritten in green on the outside. Nice, I love Christmas cards as previously mentioned. I opened the envelope and saw a snowman, cute, aw nice I thought, can’t believe I missed xmas, but still not missing snow. But then, upon opening the card, there it was, the most amazing face, a gift of the brightest sunshine (even here at 9 degrees from the equator)…was Abigail. All 3 ½ years of her looking all grown up in the Thomas color of pink.

Mom had said that she would include it in the box, but my crazy from the heat brain forgot. I carried it for 3 days to show off my forgotten surprise.
