Swim Lessons

Ok, I’m embarrassed to admit that today was actually the first day I went swimming. I’ve been to the beach and been in the water, but with classes going till noon followed by lunch, a wait for the bus and the rains due in each afternoon I haven’t been in for a full round of boogie boarding or wave dodging.

Some of you know that I actually have a bit of a fear of the water. That’s part of the reason I chose to come to Costa Rica actually –going to face it head on. So, although we had beach trips growing up, the Atlantic is often a little chilly, or, downright cold actually. Today I did recall Titi yelling in the waves at Missquamicut (that is so not spelled correctly) “You can’t move a mountain!” That helped get my head in the game.

Although I spent summers on the lake and love boats, I always needed my Daddy to carry me in and out. No touching the mucky bottom!

Although I swam in pools form the Bakers to the Bruces to Bummas I could never hold my breath like Amy.

Today, Rigo (one of my absolute favorite people here) didn’t give me the option to hesitate. He said “Vamos!” It was either be a wuss or go for it. I went head first, my bottoms were falling off, I swallowed several awful mouthfuls of grossness and came out with a headache. Man it was fun! Next time, we ride. Boogie board training coming up.

Muchas gracias Rrrrrrrodrrrrrigo!
