You can call him JuanCa too...no matter what you call him he's an awesome guy! My landlord has made me feel right at home and is putting me to task with my spanish. He even made me make a phone call in spanish - I nearly wet my pants. But, it all turned out cool and the guy on the other end actually knew what I was saying!
He lives on the property so I feel really safe. He's in his late 40s and built like a brick sh*thouse. He runs. Running here isn't like running at home. It's like heartbreak hill times 10! He surfs, he does yoga, he dances up a storm, rides horses...
He's on his game when it comes to helping his tenants. I asked about a typical Costa Rica fruit the other day. He said "wiat, I'll be back." He ran outside, climbed a tree and brought me back an enormous guanabana! It's a big, melon like with porcupine things on it. Green on the outside and white and fleshy on the inside, so sweet. Uncle Bobby may know what it is.
He came through again after an ant meltdown. So, I an deal with ants. There is no escaping them here. But, when I got home on Friday (well, Saturday am) there was a whole colony swarming up the kitchen wall. JuanCa to the rescue!
He's getting us acclimated here too. He brought Patricia and to a fusion cooking demo and a Costaricense concert, Marta Fonseca was in town! He's got some friends that run another spanish school here that will be great contacts. And, he's opening a school on his property in 2009. Oh and, he speaks 5 languages. Pretty cool guy.
